ServicesIn addition to goods, the services of skilled (and not so skilled) professionals can be purchased in the various towns and cities characters pass through. The kinds of services available depend largely on the size, economy, and culture of a town; one is far more likely to retain the services of a skilled Dwarven craftsman in the heart of a bustling mountain metropolis than in a rural swamp village.
Hirelings |
Almost any service can be hired out to be performed on a regular basis as you travel. You can hire a minstrel to accompany you and sing of your mighty deeds. You can hire guards to protect you during a long and perilous journey. You can just hire someone to carry your stuff. This does not come cheaply, however; for a hireling to uproot their lives, turn away their normal customers, and accompany you to dangerous places, it costs more than their normal services.
The cost to take on a hireling is triple the base cost for the service times the number of days you're hiring for. For example, if you wanted to hire a minstrel whose services normally cost 5 Crowns, it would cost you 15 Crowns per day of travel to hire this person on.
