Items & equipment
There is much to be discovered om Eden, not the least of which are treasures of the old world and remnants of technology long forgotten. These items are classified into three main categories: Armaments (weapons and armor), Augments (enhancements to V.E.R.S.A.) and Gear (tools and resources for survival). Each section describes the various details regarding such items, including their value in terms of game mechanics and as a monetary resource.
Currency & ExchangeThere is no officially minted form of money on Eden. Those who wish to buy and sell do so using either a barter system or by trading Materia. Materia is a kind of programmable matter found only on Eden. Using basic nanotechnology, this substance can be manipulated and programmed to take on new shapes. With enough Materia and technological know-how, one can create almost anything. And the same nanotechnology can be used to break common items down into Materia, allowing this exotic form of matter to be used in any exchange as a basic unit of value, making Materia the unofficial currency of Eden.

All items are listed with a Materia value, indicating the base amount of Materia required to create this item. Since special knowledge and tools are required to actually create items from Materia, those who buy and sell finished goods do so at a slight mark-up to make a profit. GMs are advised to mark up the base value listed here by a percentage that adequately reflects demand for this particular item (and the vendor's willingness to part with it or replenish his stock). A mark-up of 50% of the base value is typically recommended.
Items can always be sold or exchanged for other items for a percentage of their base Materia value. Again, because not everyone has access to the tools or ability to break items down into Materia, the rate of exchange will vary from vendor to vendor depending on several factors. A mark-down of 50% of the item's base value is typically recommended. |
Item Creation
With the right tools and technical knowledge, a Pathfinder can create their own goods from raw Materia. The process happens almost instantaneously as the matter assembles itself into the desired shape right before the craftsman's eyes. Three things are required to create an item:
If all three of these things are present, the craftsman simply takes about 5 minutes to program what he wants to build into the Forge and the Materia assembles itself into that shape before his eyes. Simple as that.
- Forge: A hand-held device used to program Materia into a desired shape. Forges are extremely high tech and require specialized knowledge to use.
- Proficiency: In order to use a Forge, a Pathfinder must first know how. There are three Proficiencies related to creating items:
- Alchemy: Use of a Forge to create Consumable items like meds and grenades.
- Artifice: Use of a Forge to create Augments that improve one's abilities or Mods to upgrade one's VERSA.
- Synthesis: Use of a Forge to create permanent items like weapons, supplies, and ammunition.
- Materia: Programmable matter intrinsic to Eden. This is the raw stuff needed to create any item and you'll need more or less of the stuff depending on the size or complexity of the item you're creating.
