Enchantments
Runes are the words of creation, which a Runeweaver can engrave into objects to enchant them with a permanent magical effect. Runewoven items are considered magical and, like all magical items, require Attunement to use. They are much more common than Relics and do not have a mind of their own (and all the baggage such an item comes with) for the owner to contend with.
Normally, multiple instances of the same effect from the same source are not cumulative. However, Runes are a glaring exception to this rule. Multiple instances of the same Rune create a cumulative effect. For example, having 4 of the same Rune that gives a +1 to Combat would result in a +4 to Combat (at the cost of 4 Rune slots). |
The power flowing through a Rune is enough to destroy most common objects, thus a Runeweaver must be careful not to create an enchantment too powerful for the newly magical item to handle. Typically, an object can handle a number of Runes relevant to its Rarity:
- Common objects can handle 1 Rune
- Uncommon objects can handle 2 Runes
- Scarce objects can handle 3 Runes
- Rare objects can handle 4 Runes
- Mythic objects can handle 5 Runes
AUGEM
Augem is a silvery powder which is highly conductive of magic. It is the primary material Runeweavers work with, inlaying Augem into the designs they so tediously labor to create. Depending on the complexity of the Rune being inscribed, multiple vials of Augem may be required to complete the work.
Augem is created through complicated alchemical processes but can also be obtained by performing a ritual which destroys an enchanted object, converting it into a pile of Augem. While they will most often purchase Augem or find it during their adventures, player characters with the Runeweaving Proficiency can perform a ritual over the course of an hour to destroy an enchanted object and obtain a pile of Augem; the exact amount depends on the destroyed item's rarity and Attunement values:
