Elan
(ey-lahn)
Hailing from the advanced and beautiful world of Varion, the Elan are a passionate and intellectual race who hold to high ideals and eternally strive for a better society. They are quite affluent and widespread across The Sphere, having mastered early many advanced technologies that took other civilizations centuries to acquire. The home world is a testament to their genius, its vast nations of magic and technology stretching across an ethereal cityscape as far as the eye can see.
Elan are always born in pairs of fraternal twins. Twins are polar opposite from one another as far as genetic determinators of personality, values, and motivations go. Though lifelong friends, fraternal rivalries are common among Elan and their society is a complex web of ever-shifting alliances, hostilities, and upheavals. Elan are drawn to passionate extremes of their favored ideals, abstaining from moderate positions as such stances are seen as a sign of weakness. An Elan is as likely to budge on an idea as he is to grow wings and fly. Elan hold to a strict caste system based on racial ethnicity. Those of certain bloodlines are seen as more noble, more favored by the gods, and more worthy of wealth, power, and influence. While this idea may seem cruel or discriminatory to outsiders, the Elan see it as a fact of nature as unchangeable as the tide. These beliefs come not from any genetic merit, but from a centuries-old conquest that saw all nations of Varion come under a single banner. Those whom the conquering nation despised were given status as slaves and pariahs while those more closely allied to the victors received a higher station in society. This social paradigm has existed since the dawn of the Fourth Era and is not likely to change any time soon. |

Eternal Insight
The Elan mind sees farther and deeper than most mortals, easily penetrating the Mysteries of eternity. Each Scene, you automatically gain Advantage on one Feat of your choice. Trait Bonus +1 Brawn if you are Vanir +1 Heart if you are Eonir +1 Intellect if you are Aesir +1 Skill if you are Devir |
Deific WingsA pair of radiant angel wings or bat-like demon wings gives you the gift of flight. You can fly at any point during or for the duration of any movement you make, but you may not end your moves airborne. Any time you fall from a height and are conscious, you can make a Save to use your wings and right yourself, slowing your fall before you hit the ground; doing so causes you to land on your feet and take no damage from the fall.
If you spend an Asset, you may upgrade Deific Wings to its Advanced version, which allows you to end your moves airborne. |
Ethnicity & Origin
AesirLeast numerous among the Elan are the Aesir, radiant beings who number among the social elite of their home world. Aesir are almost always born into wealth and position. Their family lines are ancient, prominent and noble at their best, crumbling and inbred at worst. As such, Aesir in good standing are rarely seen off-world as their duties to the nations of Varion keep them anchored to home.

DevirMerchants and craftsmen, Devir occupy the burgeoning middle class of Elani society. At their best, Devir are engines of the economy and captains of industry. At their worst, they are cheats and conmen willing to do anything to make a buck. As much as they need and respect them, most Elan bear little trust for the Devir.

EonirLowest in Elani society and most numerous among their race, Eonir are commoners most often cast as farmers, laborers, and drudges living and working the poor and polluted slums of Varion’s otherwise glittering cities. Many Eonir turn to lives of crime or leave their home world in search of a better life elsewhere.
|
VanirThe Vanir are a proud warrior race who embody the ideals of willpower and inner strength. Whatever the Vanir fights for, they fight with all their heart. Within Elani society, they often serve as soldiers, guards, and law enforcement. Though they tend towards small, rural communities of close-knit families, many tribes have gradually integrated into the broader Elan society, living in Vanir neighborhoods within Varion’s vast cityscapes.
