Character Creation
Character
You are a Pathfinder: a highly trained, cybernetically enhanced, supernaturally-empowered explorer given the impossible task of conquering the world of Eden and making a new home for humanity. Though you will find many along the way to help, the success or failure of your mission ultimately depends on your skill, strength, and resolve to get the job done. Here, you will decide what kind of hero you are and the particular skillset that distinguishes you from other Pathfinders.
Use the following process to create your character or use the links to the left to navigate to the various sections related to character creation. |
Select Your Lineage
In order to survive across the centuries of space travel required to reach Eden and settle the alien world once humanity reached its destination, a new breed of human was required. Except for a handful of cryogenically preserved original Earthlings (none of whom could ever be Pathfinders), all who remain to populate Eden belong to one of the following genetically (or technologically) engineered Lineages of humanity.
Each Lineage offers a +1 bonus to a single Trait, a special perk, and six options one can choose for their Class. Pick one Lineage to which you belong. Click the "+" for more information on that Lineage or the picture to navigate to the Lineage's page.

Alathean
Alatheans were engineered to be especially clever, talented, and adept at everything they put their skillful hands to. Alatheans use savvy and charisma to maneuver around obstacles, preferring skill and cunning over brute force.
Skill +1
+200 Materia for Armaments
+200 Materia for Augments +200 Materia for Gear Gain two additional Proficiencies. Feats an Alathean has spent Focus on are immune to critical failures. |
Amaranthine
Rather than face death, some humans elected to preserve their lives by uploading their consciousness into a robot body. Amaranthine are immortals with vast knowledge and experience alongside years of emotional wear and tear.
Skill +1
+100 Materia for Armaments
+300 Materia for Augments +200 Materia for Gear Amaranthine have an organic human brain housed in a cybernetic body (with all the same pros and cons of an organic body), increasing their Sync by 5. Amaranthine can gain the benefits of a Full Rest after a minimum of 3 hours instead of the standard 6 hours. |
Breonite
The strength of the Breonite lies in their sensitivity to both the external and internal; what is apparent and what lies beneath. Many are gifted with an extrasensory perception and use their psychic abilities to bring healing to those in pain.
Heart +1
+100 Materia for Armaments
+200 Materia for Augments +300 Materia for Gear Once per round at the start of her turn, a Breonite may Save to end a negative status condition on behalf of an ally within 10 yards. |
Gnostic
By strange and unconventional methods, the Gnostic Lineage was created and gifted with a connection to The Aether, a supernatural force science cannot fully explain. For their abilities, Gnostics are considered freaks and outcasts.
Mind +1
+200 Materia for Armaments
+100 Materia for Augments +300 Materia for Gear During character creation, Gnostic players gain one Stunt from a Schema of their choosing. |
Mechan
Originally created as high-functioning machines, the Mechan only recently began developing sentience. Many see them as a threat to the survival of humanity, but others trust them for their mutual stake in finding a new home on Eden.
Body +1
+300 Materia for Armaments
+200 Materia for Augments +100 Materia for Gear Mechan start with twice as many Hit Points as they would otherwise but can only recover HP during a Full Rest or through mechanical (not medical) means. Mechan are unaffected by drugs and stims, have no need to eat, drink, breathe, or sleep, and never age. While they are immune to disease, strong electromagnetic fields can inflict similar illnesses on them. |
Norian
Norians are natural-born leaders, engineered with the charisma, wisdom, and decision-making skills to govern effectively. Norians are brave and true of heart, often occupying civic and military leadership positions or leading squads of Pathfinders.
Heart +1
+200 Materia for Armaments
+200 Materia for Augments +200 Materia for Gear Gain two additional Features. When a Norian is placed in a position of leadership, those under her command begin each day with an additional point of Destiny. |
Orlese
The Orlese were engineered to be physically superior in every way. They are large, muscular, and imposing with natural athleticism and a gift for warfare. Orlese often put their talents to work as soldiers, security, or common laborers.
Body +1
+300 Materia for Armaments
+100 Materia for Augments +200 Materia for Gear Double the base carrying capacity of an Orlese (before factoring in bonuses from gear and other sources). When an Orlese is reduced to 0 HP, they may roll a Save if it is the first time they've been reduced to 0 HP since their last Full Rest. For each Bump rolled, they immediately recover (Body) HP. |
Solomonari
Named for the wisest human to ever live, the Solomonari were created with a keen intellect and an insatiable curiosity. They learn quickly and remember everything: there is no mystery that can withstand their considerable genius for long.
Mind +1
+200 Materia for Armaments
+300 Materia for Augments +100 Materia for Gear When a Solomonari spends Destiny, each point counts as 2 Bumps instead of 1. When a Solomonari spends Focus, each point grants 2 extra dice instead of 1. |
Background
Upon their 18th birthday, every individual is required to submit themselves to an exam to see if they are eligible to participate in the Pathfinder program. The honor and opportunities for fame and fortune that come with admission are only available to those who display truly exceptional strength, intelligence, and skill.
Every Pathfinder had a life before their admission into the program, and every Pathfinder who completes the training finds new social, business, and political opportunities that would have never been available otherwise. Background represents the lifestyle choices a character made (or had thrust upon them) on either side of their Pathfinder training. These choices influence the social ties, potential plot hooks, and starting resources available to a character (any Materia gained from Backgrounds that isn't spent by the end of character creation is lost). Pick one Background for your character (note: You may choose more than one Background for character flavor and depth, but only receive the benefits of one.)

CORE TRAITS & SECONDARY STATS
There are four key components to every person's being. These core Traits affect all of a character's other attributes, from how much she knows to how much damage she can take to how much she can carry. All of these Traits are important in some way and those you choose to emphasize reflect your specific approach to the mission of a Pathfinder.
Each Trait starts with a rating of 1. Distribute 5 points as you see fit; you may assign no more than 2 points to a single Trait.
Each Trait starts with a rating of 1. Distribute 5 points as you see fit; you may assign no more than 2 points to a single Trait.
BodyStrength and endurance, physicality, athleticism
Body measures the strength, endurance, and fitness of your physical body. Those in tune with this Trait are tougher, stronger, and often emphasize a hands-on, action oriented approach to problem solving.
|
HeartPersonality, willpower, empathy, charisma, resilience
Heart is a measure of your personality, social skills, and inner strength. Those with an emphasis on Heart are often the team's mouthpiece and moral compass, offering clever diplomatic solutions to obstacles.
|
MindIntelligence, memory, reason, IQ, awareness, wisdom
Mind quantifies how intelligent, perceptive, and open to information a character is. Those who place a premium on Mind prefer to reason through a problem, considering all possibilities and taking the best one.
|
SkillTalent, cunning, creativity, mental and physical agility
Skill gauges a character's natural talent, cleverness, and aptitude for getting things done. Those with great Skill are master problem-solvers with an arsenal of cunning tricks and contingency plans.
|
Secondary Stats
Traits determine nearly all of your other stats. Click the "+" signs below to learn more about each Stat and how to determine its score.
Hit Points
HP = roll (Body)d6, add 10
Hit Points are a measure of how much damage you can take before being Wounded. See Health & Well-Being for more information on losing and gaining Hit Points. |
Action Points
AP = 5
Action Points represent how fast and coordinated a character is. In order to take any significant action, one must spend AP and every type of action has a different AP cost. |
Focus
Focus = (Mind + Skill) ÷ 2
Focus reflects your reserves of mental energy, your ability to hone in on important tasks. Any time you roll a Feat, you can spend available Focus for +1 to the Feat for each point of Focus spent. You recover all spent Focus during a Short Rest. |
Karma
Karma = (Heart + Skill) ÷ 2
Karma measures your good fortune. Whenever you roll a critical success, add a number of Bumps to the roll equal to your current Karma. Karma can also be spent any time you roll a Feat for one extra Bump per point spent, but doing so reduces your total Karma until it's restored by a Full Rest. |
Defense
Determined by Armor
Defense is the number of Bumps you cancel out when an enemy attacks you; all the Bumps that get through damage you. Defense is determined by the armor you wear. |
Save
Save = (Heart + Mind) ÷ 2
Save is your willpower, resilience, and tenacity. When you need to resist mental trauma or attacks of a psychic nature, you'll roll Save. You can also roll a Save at the end of your turn each round you are affected by a negative status effect that a Save can end; if you roll at least one Bump, the effect ends. |
REsolve
(Heart) dice
(Body) determines size: 1=d4, 2=d6, 3=d8, 4=d10 Resolve is a measure of your mental and physical resilience. Your Resolve is a pool of various dice. Any time you take damage, you can spend Resolve to roll the dice spent and reduce the damage by the amount rolled. You can also roll Resolve when you take a Short Rest or are treated medically to recover Hit Points equal to the total rolled. |
Resistances
Determined by abilities and equipment
There are several resistances one may acquire to reduce the amount of incoming damage. See Health & Well-Being for more information on damage resistance. |
Combat
(Body + Skill) ÷ 2
When you attack, roll a number of dice equal to your Combat score. If you hit, you'll do damage for each Bump that gets through the target's defenses. See the Combat section for more information on combat. |
Speed
Skill + 3
Speed measures how quickly a character can move from point to point. Whenever you use an Action to move, the maximum number of meters you can cover is equal to your Speed. Speed also helps determine your place in the order of turns when combat starts. |
Sync
Sync = (Body + Mind) ÷ 2
Sync is a measure of the body and mind's ability to assimilate cybernetic Augments into one's body and V.E.R.S.A. Each Augment takes up an amount of Sync space; when you run out of Sync, no more Augments can be equipped until you free up some space. |
Carry
Carry = 5 Stones
Carry represents the number of Stones worth of gear, weapons, and other items you can carry at once. Each item takes up 1-3 Stones of weight. Your Carry increases based on the pack you wear, plus other bonuses from perks and abilities. |
Proficiencies
Proficiencies are niche skills, knowledge, and training that allow the character to do something they couldn't otherwise attempt. Reading is a good example of a Proficiency; try as you might, you cannot read until learning how. The same can be said for picking locks, setting traps, crafting swords, and speaking a foreign language. A Proficiency removes limitations and allows characters to attempt new tasks they couldn't otherwise attempt. If you're wondering whether an action requires Proficiency or not, simply ask yourself if there's any chance a character could succeed at this without prior training. If the answer is no, a Proficiency is required.
Each character starts the game with a number of Proficiencies equal to their Skill score and may learn new Proficiencies as they grow in knowledge and experience.

Language Proficiencies
Even in the last days of Earth, humanity was not unified by a single language or planet-wide culture. Though the Fleet uses English as a standard language, there are a vast many tongues from Earth of old which ethnic groups still use to communicate. This is mainly practiced as a means of preserving culture and creating cohesion among ethnic groups, though anyone with access to information and enough time on their hands can learn any language they like. For each language Proficiency you take, become fluent in one language other than English.
Features
Features are special qualities and unique quirks that give Pathfinders an edge in their mission. Features can come from anywhere; a character's upbringing, training, way of thinking, or really anything that could conceivably give them an advantage from time to time. Whenever a Feat roll is required and a Feature (or Features) could possibly influence the outcome, a character gets a +1 bonus for each one that comes into play. During character creation, each Feature grants additional Materia for Armaments, Augments, or Gear. More information and a full list of Features can also be found on the Features page.

Special Abilities
Pathfinders are the best humanity has to offer thanks to not only their extreme levels of natural talent and rigorous training, but cutting edge technology that sets them apart from others. Every Pathfinder has a unique set of special abilities originating from gene treatments called Schema and from cybernetic Augments.
Select the Schema and Augments that set you apart.
Select the Schema and Augments that set you apart.
- You have a number of Strands (slots) for Schema depending on your Traits; the more powerful a Schema, the more Strands it occupies.
- Spend available Materia to purchase Augments; your Sync limits how many you can equip at a time.
SchemaSchema are divided into color-coded groups corresponding to the four main Traits: Enhancement (Body), Psychic (Heart), Forces (Mind), and Calibration (Skill). You have a number of Strands (which work like slots) for each type of Schema based on your Traits; the more powerful a Schema, the more Strands it takes up. You never learn new Schema, but the ones you have become more powerful as you grow.

AugmentsAugments are cybernetic modifications to your body and V.E.R.S.A. that provide it with additional power and versatility. Augments can be swapped out by a medical professional during a period of extended rest (several days or more). Every Augment you equip counts against your Sync; once all of your Sync slots have been used, you cannot equip any more Augments.

Gear
There is no officially minted system of currency on Eden. Instead, colonists and Pathfinders use a form of programmable matter called Materia as a sort of unofficial means of exchange. Using a device called a Forge, Materia can be programmed into any kind of matter by those with enough skill; the more complex the item being created or exotic the end result, the more Materia is required to make it. Materia can either be made into goods or exchanged as currency to purchase said goods (at a price determined by the free market).
Every Pathfinder starts with 200 Materia to spend as they see fit, plus any extra from Lineage, Background, and Features.
